Bold Venture was a transcribed syndication by Ziv Corporation. There were 78 thirty minute episodes produced for release with the premiere of 26 March 1951.
This was the first radio program staring Humphrey Bogart who resisted doing live radio shows because of the time involved. Since this series was transcribed he accepted the offer.
Humphrey Bogart plays the part of Slate Shannon hotel owner and owner of a boat called the "Bold Venture". He was ready to rescue a friend in need or hunt down and enemy. The setting for the series is Havana, Cuba.
Other regular cast members include his wife Lauren Bacall, who plays the part of Sailor Duval, and Jester Hairson who plays the part of King Moses, a calypso singer.
Music was supplied by David Rose and his Orchestra and scripts were written by Morton Fine and David Friedkin. Each script was a pure Bogie and Baby script style.
Of the 78 episodes produced, Otter lists 57 that are in circulation today. So sit back, relax, and enjoy some well produced radio from the 50's.

OTRR Maintained Set -- This set contains all known episodes in the best available audio condition with the most accurate dates and titles known to be in general circulation and based on current research at the time of release. Replaces OTRR Certified Accurate and OTRR Certified Complete.
OTRR Non-Maintained Set -- A collection of shows that has not gone through the OTRR Maintenance process.
Pre-2019 OTRR Definitions:
OTRR Certified Accurate -- A series that was "Certified Accurate" indicated that all the episodes were properly identified and labeled based on current information but that the series did not contain all known extant episodes.
OTRR Certified Complete -- A series that was "Certified Complete" achieved the highest level of certification available under the OTRR Certified Standards. This certification level implied that all the files in the series were "Certified Accurate" and also indicated that the series was as complete as possible and included all circulating episodes.
OTRR Non-Certified -- A collection of shows that has not gone through the OTRR Certification process.
Also, beginning in 2019, the version numbers of our OTRR releases changed format -- instead of v1.0 or v2.1, we are now using a version number that reflects the year and month the set was released. The format used is a two-digit year followed by a two-digit month. For example, "v1906" indicates a set that was released in June 2019, or "v1910" indicates a set released in October 2019.
NOTE: There are no passwords for any of our ZIP files. If you are prompted for a password, before downloading the file again, try unzipping the file into a shorter full folder path name -- for example, unzip to "C:\" instead of "C:\Documents and Settings\your_Windows_ID\some_other_folder\". Sorry, some of our releases contain long folder and file names, which sometimes manifests itself on the Windows platform as prompting for a password for the ZIP file. Or try renaming the ZIP file itself to a shorter name before unzipping.

Well I finally got to the last one, after listening to this great series spread out in conjunction with many other Radio Shows over the last few years. Slate Shannon and Sailor Duvall made a great team, just like Bogie and Bacall. Going to miss this famous duo. So long and thanks for the voyage.

If you liked Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall in To Have and Have Not and Key Largo then you'll probably get a kick out of Bold Venture. Slate Shannon is a good guy who doesn't need a gun to back himself up. Lady Sailor is a sharp-tongued femme fatale who looks good in jeans. Lots of interesting scenarios and ruthless villains - usually greedy Americans. The repartee between Slate and Sailor can be brutal, but Slate always gets his smoochy reward at the end. King Moses' calypso summaries can get a little tedious on a binge, but then sometimes Slate gets annoyed, too....

I'm glad Bogie finally agreed to do a radio show. He and Bacall were definitely a great team and it comes through in this show.
I find myself at fault for finding some of the plots predictable, but at the time I assume they were more fresh than they would be today.
Bogie's Slate Shannon is one tough SoB who only gets knocked out when its convenient for the plot. Bacall's Sailor Duvall is always ready with some quick wit or sarcastic slap of words.
